Healthy Measures

Now in its second year, Healthy Measures, a voluntary program designed to help employees identify and understand their major health risks, was enhanced to provide participants with a greater level of personal support and heightened knowledge of their individual health status by adding glucose testing to the blood pressure, body mass index and nicotine screening already available in the program. Healthy Measures encourages Safeway employees to engage in healthy behaviors to lower their chances of suffering from heart disease, diabetes, cancer or other health conditions.
Employees who choose to participate in the Healthy Measures program can qualify to receive substantial discounts on their healthcare contributions. Employees are assisted to improve their health through a variety of wellness programs and incentives, and access to lifestyle coaches and medical advisors.
Safeway and Healthy Measures encourage a healthy lifestyle among our employees, with the following year-over-year results:
43% of participants who did not qualify for a 2009 blood pressure discount improved and received a rebate- 17% of participants who did not qualify for a 2009 BMI (Body Mass Index) discount improved by at least 10% and received a rebate
